Troubles

Every year I tell myself to get back to blogging and every year I end up not following my resolution... Hah!

Anyways, it's been a busy few months since I last blogged which probably explains my lack of discipline to write. I've been having quite a series of misfortune the past week, starting with me dropping my phone in a freaking puddle in the Peak District which led to some water damage and lots of £££ in order to replace it. 

My body also decided it's the best time to fall sick, especially when there is an assignment due on Monday and my finals looming up ahead.

On the bright side, now I have a new phone... And to think, just slightly less than a month from now and I'll officially have finished university!!! 

Real world, here I come.

Hills of Wind

You know you're in Sheffield when your hair cannot be tamed and your calve muscles ache from climbing.

Have been spending my first weekend back sorting my timetable and getting settled into my new house. Starting to put up photos on the wall to make my room that little bit more homely :)

Managed to catch up with Phoebe, David and Wayne over dim sum at Wong Ting. That was the most interesting thing I've done so far since my return.

Tomorrow is gonna be the start of the new semester. I've got quite a light schedule so I'll be able to fit in more shifts at work in between. Will be checking out the my new department building yay!! Looks amazing in pictures... Hopefully it's as amazing in person!

Back to books...

It's been a long week.

I came down with a terribly high fever last Tuesday and was forced to hibernate at home for 24 hours (not that I'm complaining).

So with the parents and the boyfriend at work, I had to find some other way to occupy myself... and I ended up in a reading marathon... hahaha!

Finished 2 books in a day... and eventually I finished my third book by the end of the week despite having work and events to attend. Now I'm reading The Mortal Instrument in book form, hopefully it won't dissapoint!

This week is actually going to be my last week of internship and also my 2nd last week in Malaysia.
Super not psyched about leaving... :(

... but life goes on. One more year and I'll be back for good.

I Scream For Ice Cream!

Who doesn’t love ice cream?

Thanks to Nuffnang, I recently got invited for the Nestlé La Cremeria relaunch party at Laundry Bar, The Curve. I’m sure nearly everyone has tried La Cremeria before. It’s one of those ice cream tubs that you stock your fridge with so when you have a midnight craving, you just stick your spoon in the tub for a bite… okay fine maybe it’s just me.

So anyways, this relaunch of La Cremeria is to introduce their new 1.2L packaging as well as a new an improved recipe (as if it’s not already good enough pfft).

The entire Laundry Bar was decked out in Black and Gold, super elegant and classy. I even got my hands on some goodies! There was a super cool ‘gold bar’ USB thumb drive. Hahaha so glam!

After registrations and some drinks, we were ushered into the indoor section of Laundry Bar for the official launching of the ice cream. I was surprised to see that 8tv Quickie host Julie Woon was the MC of the launching!

There was a short speech by a Nestle representative who spoke about the new range of ice cream flavours with the new packaging. Apparently, the new packaging maximizes the freshness of the product and locks in all the creamy goodness!

In order to introduce their improved flavours, the Nestle La Cremaria ‘Bellas’ decked out in dresses that match each new flavour did a little catwalk around the venue.

Once the smoke cleared… TA DAH! The unveiling of the 6 new flavours.

The lovely Bella’s then brought us out according to our assigned numbers for the highlight of the event… the ice cream tasting session!

First up, the Chocolate Obsession.

This is a chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce. I thought this flavour was pretty good although I normally don’t like chocolate ice cream. It wasn’t really sweet and had a slight bitter chocolatey after taste that I liked!

We were advice to cleanse our palate after each scoop so as to fully appreciate each flavour… so here I am feeling very atas waiting for my sparkling water from one of the waiters… LOL!

I eventually wandered over to the next station that caught my eye, the ‘Chocolate Hazelnut Temptation’ which is a vanilla and chocolate ice cream with heaps of peanuts and velvety chocolate hazelnut sauce. I love anything hazelnut… it was really yummmmy! Super smooth and creamy and not too sweet again!

More hazelnut! This time the ‘Hazelnut Ganache Sensation’! Crème brulee flavoured ice cream with almond chunks and chocolate chips swirled in chocolate hazelnut sauce … phew what a mouthful! This was pretty good… but it was a tad too sweet for my liking because of the crème brulee ice cream but if you have a sweet tooth… this ice cream is for you!

By this time, I seriously had an ice cream overload. If you notice from the pictures, the kind people at Nestle are certainly generous with their tasting portions… LOL! I made my way to the ‘Almond Pecan Praline’ station for the aptly described pecan flavoured ice cream with almond chunks and velvety swirls of chocolate sauce. BOY DID I HIT THE JACKPOT!

I loved this ice cream! It had an odd pecan and almond aftertaste that I somehow found really addictive! Plus the almond bits added a real crunch to the ice cream. I’m so going to recommend this to my mum nommmms.

Just when I thought I had too much ice cream to handle, Julie Woon announced that lunch is ready to be served… what? lunch?? Woohoo! I didn’t even realized that there was going to be real food!

In the end I didn’t get to try two of the other flavours but from what I have tried, I would definitely recommend this range of ice creams! They taste really creamy and surpassed by expectation of a supermarket-stocked ice cream. Plus it’s super affordable at RM16+ for a 1.2L tub!

Also, La Cremeria roadshows will be happening nationwide in conjunction with the re-launch so everyone can try out the amazing new taste! You can find out where the roadshows will be happening at their Facebook page!

 So do check out the new La Cremeria range at your nearest supermarket! I’m off to get my Almond Pecan Praline :P

Chocolate Cake & Oriental Viva 双囍城酒家

A few weeks back, the boyfriend and I were pondering what to buy his dad for his birthday. 

After much contemplation we decided that food will still be the best option as his dad is super not materialistic. Thus, we decided to buy him some wine and bake him a cake!

Ta-dah! Check out the chocolate cake that I made! :) It was super decadent but a tad too sweet because the dark chocolate I bought wasn't really DARK dark.

Anyways we also had dinner that night at a Chinese restaurant that his dad wanted to try. It's called Oriental Viva at Viva Home Shopping Mall. They supposedly specialise in a somewhat fusion style of Chinese cuisine and have won numerous awards as well.

We ended up ordering just a few dishes to try as we weren't really up for a big meal.

First up, the Dragon Fruit Beef.

I loved this! It has that sweet salty combo that I'm addicted to with the strong savoury taste of the beef and a subtle sweetness from the dragon fruit chunks. The fruit goes well with the beefy sauce too! 

We also tried their Special Chicken Rojak Buah. Fried chicken with traditional rojak buah.

Loved the rojak! It taste... Like rojak lol! The chicken quite disappointing though. It was really oily and a bit soggy. I think they pan fried it instead of deep fry which led to the sogginess. If it were crispier, I think it would have been much better.

Another dish we tried was the Pumpkin Balls with Stir Fried Lotus Root and Veggies.

The balls were great! Crispy exterior and fluffy interior. The veggie were just normal... Nothing to scream about.

We also had a plate of Siew Yok which I didn't take a photo of. That was great as well! Which explains the lack of photo.... We gobbled it up too fast! Hahaha!

Don't think I'll be returning there again soon, would much rather go to Purple Cane (plus its cheaper) :p

Birthdays and MORE Birthdays!

It's the time of the year once again, where I become one year older and also more lazier than ever before...

We actually tried out this place in Publika called Wagaya. I had the lunch box with karaage... it was so-so. Just normal tasting :/

I also got lots of notes and Famous Amos cookies from the Admin team as well! :)

Didn't do much for my birthday this year... just went out for dinner with the boyfriend at Gardens and sorta just chilled out and chatted all night :) Today, I went out for lunch with Daddy as well for my birthday. Got to spend the afternoon playing with Xuan... teeheehee. She's such a Mummy's girl, looks totally like Sherly!

Anyways, off to dinner now with Mum! Man... so many birthday meals! (Not that I'm complaining... :D)

Back from the Dead

It's been a while since my last post. Man, doesn't time fly. I kind of failed in my resolution to blog religiously when exam season hit and it just went downhill from there.

So now that Summer is here, I'm actually back in Malaysia doing my internship with Nuffnang! It certainly is a whole lot different compared to my previous internship. I'm definitely enjoying my work a lot more. 

Hopefully, I will have some motivation to blog and then I won't desert my blog as much as I used to. 

University of Sheffield Pride...

Despite not having outstanding rankings and whatnot... my university has recently been obtaining numerous achievements of various degrees that make me really proud to be studying here.. :)

One of it is receiving my own department achieving Triple Accreditation, that is the three largest and most influential business school accreditation in the world (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS)! We are 1 of the 58 schools in the WORLD to be accredited and 1 of 17 in the UK. Hah!

Also, our Students' Union is No.1 in the UK and we were the Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2011/2012. So proud..

Well my point is, aside from all these formal stuff... recently Sheffield Uni partnered up with Google to be the first institution anywhere in the world to have full internal 360 degree panoramas on Google Street View! How cool is that?!

... and just today, I found out this interesting piece of news! On the roof of St. George's Church (which by the way is a church that has been refurbished into a university lecture theatre), a pair of Peregrine Falcons have bred successfully on a nest platform set up by the university!

Peace and Harmony...

In line with the upcoming Malaysia General Elections 2013, I have been reading up a lot more than usual on the scandals and stories that have been floating around the social media world. It's almost impossible not to stumble upon something new everyday especially with all my Malaysian friends sharing countless articles and photos which are flooding my feed.

I have never really been a very politically aware citizen neither have I cared much about registering or voting or what not.. yet this round of elections has really increased my awareness by a mile, too bad it's too late to register (maybe next time)! In any case, I am really NOT a big fan of 'radicalists' or 'extremists' as I like to call them. I feel that everyone has the right to like or dislike whichever party they wish to choose... I am really against those exceptionally popular memes and posts that blatantly point out the bias towards a certain party in the most crude way they could possibly think of without seemingly any reasons to back up their harshness (though I personally can think of reasons myself)... So, you can imagine how annoyed I am at my facebook feed and thus I have even lowered my activity of facebook because I am sick of seeing all these posts on my feed..

However, I recently came across an article written by Amelia Tan, a Malaysian youth just like myself ,and I thought I'd share it here..

In the wake of the coming 13th General Elections, we have witness the onslaught of opinions and views. Many articles, posters, cartoons and videos have been flooding our Facebook news feed, each reiterating points on why we should vote for change or not. 

To be honest, much of the stuff on my news feed are pro-change, which basically means a majority of my friends will be voting for an alternative government this coming elections. 

But I have noticed a couple of my friends, whom I hold dear and very much respect, to be supporters of BN.  

First and foremost, I believe that it is everyone's right to vote for whom they think is worthy and I do not think those who support BN as evil or corrupt. Not at all. I know all of you well enough to know you are decent human beings and this is why we are friends. I have also heard your justifications on why we should give BN a chance and I completely understand where you are coming from. 

If I may, I would like to state a few points in hope that I could offer an alternative view. Read with an open mind, my dear friends. I do not need you to agree with me and I will not judge if you don't. We are all entitled to our own views. However, I believe there will be certain things that we will agree on.

ON BEING GRATEFUL 

Many whom support BN continuously do so because they feel that we should be grateful for what our government has given us. We are given access to education, an economy and a space to thrive, our country is relatively safe compared to that of Cambodia or the Philippines, we have EPF, we are being given BR1M and BR1M2 and we have been a relatively peaceful country for 56 years.  

Before I go on to say why I think this is a moot point, let us first understand the role of government. The role of government is to basically do just that, govern. It is to provide us with education, health care, a healthy economy, infrastructure, public safety and to ensure balance and harmony in the nation in which it governs. Obviously, to govern and to ensure all these things are in place, a government would need money. Where does this money come from? Well, yes, us, the people, the Rakyat.  

So, very simply, we pay the government money, in the form of taxes every month, to provide us with these things we should be grateful for. Well, I don't know about you, but for me, that's like saying my boss should be grateful to me for coming to work every morning when I'm being paid to do it. 

Let's understand one thing. What we currently have; education, health care, EPF and etc, aren't special things that BN has brilliantly thought of for us. EVERY country with a sound and solid government would have all these things in place, otherwise they would be considered failures. The point isn't to be grateful that we have these things, the point is to judge whether our government has done its duty and done all it can to provide us with what we deserve. The answer is no. 

Our education system has been failing to produce quality students. Crime rates has escalated so badly that no one dares walk out on the streets alone, even in broad daylight. Our infrastructure is inefficient and badly maintained. Our rural folks have no access to proper health care and basic amenities. The value of our currency has taken a huge plunge in the past 30 years. We are no longer as economically competitive as we were before, with the Philippines and Indonesia fast taking over our position and we are way behind Singapore in, well, everything. In the past 5 years, racial tension has been at an all time high and completely out of control with politicians (i.e Ibrahim Ali and his ilks) spewing racial hatred and offensive statements without getting reprimanded. And lastly, early this year, the Lahad Datu invasion and the unveiling of 800,000 illegal citizenships given to Filipinos and Indonesians in Sabah some 20 years ago. 

All our lives, we have been told to be better. We go to school to be better, we study religion to be better versions of ourselves, we work hard to get to a better position in life. It is in our innate nature to want to be better. Therefore, when comparing ourselves to other countries, we can't possibly compare ourselves to countries that are worse off and be grateful that we are not them. It is not about being greedy either. It is about wanting to be better and knowing that there is plenty of room for improvement and insisting upon it. Remember, we pay the government taxes to run the country. We have a right to want it to be better. It is also our duty to ensure that they be better. We owe it to our country. We owe it to our children. We owe it to ourselves.

ON CHAOS AND INSTABILITY 

Many have cited this as the reason for sticking with BN. We fear that there will be riots on the streets and our economy will collapse should the opposition win. But that's not very logical is it? If PR does indeed win the GE13, why on earth would they cause a riot? They have won! So think now, when you think of riots, who then do you think will be causing them? The losing party? BN? If that is so, if you think the party you are supporting would be sore losers and cause a riot thus disrespecting our democratic process, would you still endorse them as fair capable leaders? Is this how we were brought up? Kick up a fuss when we lose? Is this how we would bring our children up? To lose with no integrity? 

And as for the collapse in the economy, for many years, our economy has been running on auto-pilot. I for one, do not believe our economy will collapse because I believe in our people. Our economy isn't run by the government. They have a part to play, yes, but WE the people, play a bigger part. We are the building blocks and we are the ones that move the economy. Do you really think banks and MNCs will fail to function once the government changes? No, it won't. Because come 6th May, should there be a change of government, we still have to go back to work! It is still business as usual and everything will function the way it always has. The many great businesses in Malaysia did not happen because of the government. It happened because our people are innovative and hard-working. We made this economy, not our government. We just need a stable space to go about our daily routine. So if BN doesn't kick up a fuss if they lose, deals will still be made, transactions will still happen and trades will still be very much alive. But only if BN doesn't kick up a fuss.

ON CORRUPTION 

As urban folks, it is very easy to forget that in Malaysia, there still exists a huge portion of Malaysians that live in poverty. These folks are so poor that they cannot even afford food. Do we know what it is like to not be able to afford food? I am eternally grateful that I don't. But does this mean that we forget about these people in the kampungs and rural areas and pretend that they do not exist? We are all Malaysians. Why are they still so poor?  

Why hasn't anything been done to improve their lives? You'd think after being in power for 56 years, BN would have AT LEAST help these people afford food right?
But no, the poor are still marginalised while corruption is rampant within the government. The one thing I fail to understand, my dear friends, is how can you stand by a government so corrupt?  

Every year, our Auditor General Report states ridiculous over-spending and yet nothing gets done. RM15,000 for a laptop. RM700 for a calculator. We all know this happens and we all know it is true. It's been so ingrained into our system and yet, we close one's eyes and let it be. We admit that corruption is a real problem in our government but which government isn't corrupt you say?  

Well, my dear friends, this is where WE have to change. I believe all of us are upstanding truthful people. This is why we are friends. Now, because we believe in the truth and we believe in what is right, we must reject corruption. We can't allow it to happen nor give any excuse for it to happen. Some of us have children and some of us will have children. Will these be the values and lessons we teach our young? 

I know for one that I will instill in my child, lessons of honesty, integrity, fairness and equality. To treat each person with respect and to help those who aren't capable. To always be kind and to be a good person. 

If I allow myself to turn a blind eye to corruption and not denounce it, I will be going against everything I believe in. If I support a government that has been so corrupt for 56 years, I am subscribing to those values. How else then would I be able to teach my child the lessons I want him/her to learn? How do I look my child in the eye and teach them the very thing I'm going against by endorsing BN? 

Some of us are religious and some of us are not. However, I believe that all of us have common values and beliefs. How do we uphold these values and stay true to our paths while supporting a government that has been desecrating these values for years? 

ON RACISM AND EQUALITY 

I am a 3rd generation Malaysian. I've sung Negaraku every Monday for 12 years in school and I know the Rukunegara by heart. All my family is in Malaysia and I do not have any affliations to China. I don't even know how to read and write in Chinese and my Cantonese is atrocious. I only love one country. This country. And if it comes down to it, will only shed blood for one country. This country. 

My dear friends, we are the same. It doesn't matter what our ethnicity is. We are Malaysians. We went to the same school. We played the same games. We enjoy the same amount of public holidays. We have the same memories. Most importantly, we share the same home. Neither of us are more Malaysian than the other. Neither of us should be made to feel that way. 

Our parents, our grandparents, perhaps their views were marred by differences as they did not grow up together. Perhaps they felt distrust because they were not privileged like us to live in times of better integration. Perhaps they've told us things, from their point of view. But it doesn't make them right. We should know better. We've lived it and we are still living it. We know we can trust each other. We are friends. 

My dear friends, if you see me fall, would you pick me up? I am sure you would. How about if you see someone telling me I don't belong here? Would you stand up for me? As friends, we must stand up for each other. If I see someone mistreating you or stripping you of your rights, I would stand by you. This is because we are equals. We do not need BN to tell us we are 1Malaysia. We have been like that for a long long time.

ON AN ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT 

Many fear that PR would be no better. To be completely honest, I do not have an answer for this. I do not know if PR will be the solution to a better government. I do not know if they would indeed bring change upon Malaysia. What I do know is that we desperately need check and balance in this country. To have the same government rule for 56 years is not healthy. Let us use logic to analyse this. If you are the government and you have been in power for 56 years, wouldn't you become complacent? If you know you'll win every single time, would you try as hard? It is human nature to take things for granted and BN has taken things for granted. It has forgotten the role it is supposed to play.  

We need this change because we need to restore the democratic process in our country. We need the power to shift back to the people. We need the government to fear the people and not otherwise. This is because only through fear would any government be kept on its toes and do its job well. We know what it is like to have a really scary boss. We naturally do a better job because we'd otherwise be fired. It is the same logic.  

Power needs to be shifted back to the people. If we manage to change the government, we would have won half the battle. We would then know that we can pick whoever that is best to run the country. If this does happen, we can easily boot PR out after 5 years if they do a bad job and elect BN again if they prove to be better. 

Think of this as helping BN to change. BN will not change if we still give it power to rule after being so inefficient for so long. They can promise us a lot of things and that they will change but we have given them 12 chances to change already. If we boot them out this time, they would have to restructure themselves and compete really hard to win the hearts of the people. Perhaps then, we would see better policies and better governance. Perhaps then, we would have two strong parties for us to pick. And perhaps then, we could have intellectual debates about policies and plans instead of the fear mongering and racial scare tactics we see in our election campaigns today. If we manage to change our political landscape to one which is that, then we, the Rakyat, would have won. Malaysia would be restored.

So my dear friends, please know that I am not voting for a change for the sake of it. I am doing this for you and me and our future. I envisage a Malaysia that is much better than the current Malaysia. I know our country has so much potential and I want it to be so much better. This is because I know it can be better.  

I hope you have read this with an open mind and I hope you will give it some thought. If you know me, you know that I am not an extremist or a radicalist. I am just your ordinary Malaysian person who wants this country to be better. 

Just like you. 

Now, why can't all articles be as insightful as this? I'm really worried about what will happen after the results are announced tomorrow...

Planning LDC and then actually hosting it on the day...
Going for my classes and meeting Hyelim...
.. woke up this morning feeling terrible! Barely had sleep for the pass 3 days and I think it took it's toll on me... Had to miss out on the MNight post-mortem because of it... :(

Now rushing my Korean homework for tomorrow...
Dang it! Exams less than a month away!
... and I have to prepare for moving as well.. gotta cancel all the internet/phone/gas/electricity direct debits before they start eating up all my money... T_T

Sigh... no time for a proper update.

Photography Bug

I feel like revisiting the past once again and getting back into photography. I just haven't had the time during university to just find a day where I don't have anything on my schedule and whip my camera out. In fact, I think my camera deserves some pampering from a camera shop in my next trip back home for some cleaning. Until then, I shall reminisce of my past photography ventures...

It's Sunday once again!

I've been following Ochikeron for awhile now and I'm really intrigued by her recipes. I think when I go back to Malaysia I will attempt the really interesting recipes one by one.... Like this cupcake recipe!



In my last Sandytube I mentioned 15&'s new song 'Somebody'.. I LOVE IT! I actually liked the live version better than the music video.. I find the video somewhat cheesy.. hmm. I don't really get the relation between the '15& Star' setup and finding somebody to love.. but then again I haven't really read the translation of the lyrics. On another note, JiMin is a total natural with her stage presence! She is really good at acting in the MVs and is definitely not awkward like LeeHi and kind of outshines Hyerin but not too much which is fine...LOVE THEM!



Oh! Akdong Musician won K-Pop Star 2 so I'm looking forward to their songs in the future.. wondering which company they will choose...

I also mentioned Gain and Hyungwoo's new song 'Brunch' which I also love! So chillaxing....
This has been on repeat whenever I need a bit of music in my room...



Another super lovely song that recently came out is K.Will's 'Love Blossom'. I only really listened to this after Simon and Martina from EatYourKimchi kept going on about it because they interviewed K.Will. I always knew that K.Will is an amazing singer but I never really listened to his songs.. but this one is lovely.. :)



Psy's new song 'Gentleman' is also out. I'm quite disappointed with it. It feels like he's trying too hard to top Gangnam Style. The only thing I like about this video is that GaIn is in it.. and I love GaIn. Other than that... meh. The dance is a complete rip-off of Abracadabra as well.. which probably explains why GaIn is there. At least Gangnam Style was original in it's sheer stupidity.



ThePianoGuys came up with a new video this week as well.. and though I didn't really enjoy the new song 'Berlin', I rediscovered my love for their music.. :)

Total LOVE... but for some reason I can no longer find the original upload of Love Story Meets Viva la Vida. Guessed they removed it? Hmm...

Easter Holiday Haul

Over the Easter holidays I spent too much money going to Poland... and then I spent more money shopping once I came back. Pfft.

So I thought I'd do a haul post for some noteworthy things that I bought.

Firstly, I needed to buy a dress for DnD considering that I have ONE formal dress which was for DnD with the same bunch of people last year and this year's theme is Modern Monarchy which meant I had to be somewhat glamorous to fit the theme. But since I spent all my £££ away, I was on a really tight budget... so I got this dress!

I got this for £16! That's less than RM75. When I bought it I was so pleased with it... but then when I went for DnD, Wei Fernn was wearing the same dress WTF? That's what happens when you buy cheap things.. other people buy it too because it's cheap.. sadness T_T

So I'm looking forward to the next event that I can wear this too where I wont be trying to hide in the shadows to avoid bumping into someone else wearing the same dress... sigh.



I also bought these nude court shoes from Marks and Spencers. I normally think Marks and Spencers is quite aunty but then I saw these pair and it was £19 and they are gorgeous! SO comfy and because they are from Marks and Spencers, the quality is really good.. so very pleased with that. Feels so Kate Middleton-esque.

I'm really going the convenience of online shopping when I go back Malaysia. I know it's starting to hype up in KL but it's still not exactly a fool-proof system as in the UK? Plus Amazon delivery is just so cheap here and it's international delivery for Malaysia. So I actually bought a few things from La Senza's mid-season sale. Bought some girly boxer shorts and sleeping stuff that I'm very pleased with. I was ready to return them but they are so soft and so comfy and so discounted.. I think I'll keep them.

Also bought some books from Amazon that were on super super sale. Like RM10-RM15 each.

I was watching EssieButton on Youtube and her boyfriend (Aslan?) recommended this book.. and it has tons of reviews as well so I thought I'd give it a go. It's called 'The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared'.. LOL

I also bought a book I was eyeing in Poland called 'The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz'. Ever since going to Auschwitz I'm really fascinated by the stories based on the place be it fiction or non-fiction so since this book was on super discount (I think it was around £2.50), I decided to buy it.

   

So that's it for my mini haul. Hahaha so weird doing a haul! I didn't actually take my own photos of the stuff except for the dress. Too lazy. Next time I do a bigger haul I will take my own photos :P

Pierogi, pierogi... PIEROGI!!

So continuing on....

On the 3rd morning in Poland we woke up bright and early.. or more like DARK and early to catch the PolskiBus to Warsaw. The bus ride took 5 hours but it was surprising pleasant. I slept most of the way and all of us who slept had our photos taken without permission by Jason.. grrrr! They provide chargers under the seat for your phone/laptop and free WiFi! Great service...



So we arrived in the Warsaw city centre bus stop and after some many wrong turns and asking directions... we finally arrived in our hostel aptly named The Warsaw Hostel! After putting down our bags and having a much needed toilet break.. we were off to meet a friend of Siung's who was going to bring us for lunch!



We went to a Polish chain restaurant called Zapiecek which was really really GOOD for a franchise. Their star menu is oodles of pierogi (polish dumplings) and soup. Lukasz (Siung's friend) recommended a very typical Polish soup called Zurek. Not having been a fan of Borscht, I was a bit skeptical about the soups but this soup was DELISH! It's base is rye meal and perhaps sauerkraut? Or maybe not... It's served with a hard boiled egg and sausage either on the side or in the soup... by far the best non-asian soup I've had! We also ordered a variety of pierogi.. potato pierogi, russian pierogi, salmon pierogi, forest mushroom pierogi, spinach pierogi, turkey and bacon pierogi.. don't judge me there were 8 of us at the table. Fulfilling lunch indeed...

 

After lunch, we wandered deeper into the city centre with the intention of wandering into Warsaw Old Town. Ended up at some war memorial that had a big field of snow (did I mention it was snowing?) and you guessed it... we had a snowball fight. Not sure if that was the smartest idea at below zero degrees but had tons of fun anyways.

 
 

That night we had dinner at a Polish bar/restaurant called Podwale 25 which was the BEST restaurant during the entire trip! The food was ORGASMIC and the portions were GINORMOUS! Loved it. We order amongst us some pork knuckle, schnitzel, duck and pork ribs. THE PORK RIBS... Oh lordy...

  We ate until we burst.. camwhored even more with snow in the dark... crawled back to the hostel to freshen up and then played a few rounds of Mafia.
